Hotel Holiday Inn St Germain des Près - Paris - Jardin du Luxembourg

Jardin du Luxembourg

The palace was built in the early 1600s for Queen Marie dei Medici, the widow of King Henri IV. Today, it's the home of the French Senate. The gardens are a public park (the largest on the Left Bank).

Notre Dame Cathedral

Monument impressing, Notre Dame dominates all the religious architecture of the Ile-de-France. The works of construction begin in 1163 to end 200 years later (in 1345 exactly).
The exhaltation of romantic Victor Hugo, through his novel " Notre Dame de Paris", allowed the whole world to discover the cathedral.

What strikes generally the guests it is the facade consisted of majestic doors and stained glasses in the form of rosettes, but also these strange statues, among the saints, that we name collectively "gargoyles", and what gives the feeling that they are going to fly away.
To describe facades and the body of the monument would be too exhaustive: meeting on the Island of the Town and contemplate one of the most beautiful cathedrals of France.

Orsay museum

Hotel Holiday Inn St Germain des Près - Paris - Orsay museum
Inaugurated on July 14, 1900, on the eve of the great exhibition, the Gare d'Orsay, constructed by the architect Victor Laloux, was used as a Railroad station only until 1939. It soon became obvious that it was not suited to the increasing number of travelers and has successively been used as a prison center on the liberation of Paris, a film set by Orson Wells, a theater by the Company Renaud Barrault, and a sales room by Drouot.
In 1973 the idea to use it as a museum was born, but it was only in 1977 that the decision was officially made. On December 1st, 1986, after internal renovation by Gae Aulenti, François Mitterrand inaugurated the museum.
The Musée d'Orsay demonstrates the artistic creation of the western world in all its diversity from 1848 to 1914.
Here you can see, LAngélus by Millet, L'Olympia and Le Déjeuner sur L'Herbe by Manet, La Danse de Carpeaux, the series on the Rouen Cathedral by Monnet, L'Eglise d'Auvers sur Oise by Van Gogh, Le Bal du Moulin de la Galette by Renoir, and La Porte de l'enfer by Rodin and more.

Invalides

In 1670, King Louis XIV adopted the plans of Libéral Bruant for the construction of a hospital for invalided soldiers, otherwise condemned to begging or theft. The works, the second most significant, after those of Versailles commenced in 1671. The Soldiers church opened in 1677. However, it was not until 1706 that the consecration of the royal church, celebrated for its gilded dome, marked the end of the work. Today the Dome of the Invalides contains the ashes of Napoleon brought back in 1840.
