The Arch of Triumph |
On the Place de l'Etoile raises itself, in the form of vault, the Triumphal arch. His financier, Napoleon, wished a monument to commemorate the glory of the French army. The names of his victories remained engraved in the stone of the monument. The Arc de Triomphe also contains the grave of the unknown soldier, the symbol of thousands of soldiers killed on the front during the first world war. Since 1923, every November 11th, the Flame of the Memory on the grave of the unknown soldier was symbolically relit by war veterans and soldiers. |
Jardin des Tuileries |
The Garden of Tileries and the Carrousel is composed of two large basins connected by a decorated central alley of a hundred sculptures including eighteen of Maillol. The large basins are used as adventure playground to the children who can rent boats and to make them sail.

La Madeleine |
At the end of the Rue Royal you can found the Palace de la Madeleine with its unmistakable Greek temple form. It was built for the glory of Napoléon's Grande Armée. The commemorative role of the edifice was lost when the Arc de Triomphe was built. In 1842 it was consecrated as a church. |
